Our Team

Empowering others to develop a higher degree of self-confidence and care is what led Loyal down this career path. For Loyal, it is less about the final look that matters, but how great someone feels about themselves when they leave the chair. It’s the whole experience.

Loyal’s career began during high school, working in a small salon in West Kelowna. Here, he performed reception and assistance duties, helping out in any way he could. He was enrolled in Culinary Arts as cooking has always been his greatest joy, having learned from his Grandmother. What he came to realize, is the danger of your favourite hobby becoming your career. He didn’t want to risk losing his flair for the culinary arts. The hair industry captivated him, and he became particularly fascinated by how Hairstylists could inspire a degree of self-worth and empowerment within their clients.

In 2006, at the age of just 21, Loyal opened his first  salon with the assistance of his late mother, Adele. While he soon fell in love with the art of hair, he found an even bigger appreciation for empowering his team to achieve success. With no formal business training, he worked with some of the best industry coaches through the L'Oreal Professionnel network who enabled him to understand the business to a higher degree.

One of the most important influences in his young life was the introduction to his now business partner and mentor, Colin Ford. As a young educator, Loyal was connected with Colin through Colin’s role with L'Oreal Professionnel and has had the pleasure of getting to know him on travel abroad. The two soon began to understand their similarities despite a gap in experience. Colin would move to Kelowna a decade later, coincidentally in the same year Loyal’s mother passed away unexpectedly.

Together, the Loyal Hair brand has evolved to a renewed vision that has overcome unexpected loss and triumphant successes. Loyal Hair always remains focused on the people that are at the heart of what we do, whether it's the team or our valued guests, our true mission is to inspire others to achieve their own desired level of excellence.

Loyal is grateful for the opportunity to travel extensively and learn from some of the industry's best innovators. Whether visiting the founding location of L'Oreal Professionnel in Paris, France - learning about service in Dubai, or visiting a new friend's salon in Bangkok, travel and connection has elevated Loyal to new heights.

As Loyal embarked on a new career path in politics (being elected to City Council in Kelowna in 2018) the lessons learned in the hair industry prepared him for this path. At the end of the day, leadership is about people and authenticity. Loyal feels privileged to say that the lessons learned in the salon industry have prepared him in ways he never thought possible.

The guest experience is his passion. He elevates this experience to new heights by incorporating sensorial experiences into every salon visit. What some may find to be general maintenance to their grey hair, there is an opportunity to give someone a break from the day-to-day and practice self-care to elevate their self-esteem.

When not at the salon, Loyal can be found enjoying life with his wonderful husband Ian. They are usually traveling, enjoying downtime, and always something outdoors. Most recently, he took up skiing to enjoy the Okanagan winters a little bit more. He also adores his garden in the summer where he can practice what his Grandmother taught him about caring for plants.

Favourite wine: “That's like choosing your favourite child! It all depends on the season for me. Okanagan summers call for rosé, Fall summons a wonderful Pinot Noir, Winter a bold Cabernet Sauvignon and spring a stunning Chardonnay”

Favourite song:  “'This is Me' Greatest Showman Soundtrack”

A moment where a service noticeably empowered or boosted the confidence of one of your guests:

“Transforming the look of a gentleman on New Year’s Eve who had worn a turban for his entire life. He contacted me a week prior and asked if I would have the honour of cutting his beard and hair for the first time in his life. He was graduating pharmacy and wanted to portray a different image to the world. In changing his look, it was a deep connection where we worked together over the course of two hours that demonstrated the high degree of trust we are given when we hold scissors.”

Colin Ford

While he originally hails from New Zealand, Colin's career path has seen him rack up the air miles and build a wealth of global experience. He is an experienced brand director with over 50 years of working in the industry. Working as the Education Direction for L'Oreal Professionnel (13 years as the Director of Education and Events for L'Oreal Professionnel Canada in Montreal, followed by two years as International Director of Education, L'Oreal Professionnel International, Paris France).

After a career spent globetrotting, Colin found himself thinking of home during a visit to Kelowna. There was something about the rolling hills and mild climate that reminded him of his native New Zealand. Before long, he'd made the big move and hasn't looked back.

Colin’s career highlight thus far was joining the New Zealand Team and representing New Zealand at the World Championships of Hairdressing and coaching twice. As well as becoming the International Director of Education for L'Oreal Professionnel in Paris, France. The City of Lights is about as far as a person can get from rural New Zealand (both literally and figuratively,) but it had always been Colin's dream, and to achieve this was no mean feat.

Though Colin specializes in the fundamentals of hair care, he's equally at home crafting a stylish makeover, updating an existing look, or even creating something new when it's time for a change. Building relationships with his guests is always important to him, “as you need someone’s trust to truly discover their true personality and to have them trust to give them what I know to be the right look and colour.”

When Colin is not in the salon he loves to dance as well as get out into nature. Walking through the trails in Rose Valley Regional Park, which is minutes from his house, allows him to constantly reconnect with nature. And of course, there is no better activity than spending time with his three grandchildren.

Favourite wine: “Californian Zinfandel”

Favourite song:  “Ordinary Human, OneRepublic”

A moment where a service noticeably empowered or boosted the confidence of one of your guests: “Many women feel that as they get older that they are a lost cause, especially if they have recently gone through a separation/divorce. Last year, I took a woman who had long grey curly hair and did a makeover. Shorter, a new colour, she looked 10 years younger and the positive feedback from her family and friends made her feel attractive again.”

Chloe Bradeen

After graduating from hair school, Chloe searched around for a salon she could grow into her own at. She found herself at Loyal hair and instantly felt connected. She’s been with the company for three years now, and has learned much and continues to love where she works! Hairdressing has grown Chloe into the person she sees today. She loves how she can express who she is and connect with clients that way. Chloe specializes in blonding services and colour corrections are her favorite. She enjoys doing long transformations that are creative.

When she’s not behind the chair, Chloe can be found spending time with family and friends, cooking, or anything outdoors.

Favourite wine: “White.”

Favourite song: “Outkast Hey ya!.”

A moment where a service noticeably empowered or boosted the confidence of one of your guests:

“Applying extensions for my guests has made a huge impact on me. So many people struggle with growing their hair or have fine hair. When a client can put the trust in my hands and walk out of the salon smiling I can't help but smile too.”

Lindsay Brown

Originally from Kelowna BC, Lindsay began her journey in her early 20’s. She relocated to Vancouver BC to complete her apprenticeship along with two years of work experience, and went on to advance her education and explore different avenues at the Aveda Institute.

Lindsay's dedication to the pursuit of knowledge has seen her regularly attend classes. Over the next eight years, Lindsay dove head-first into countless cutting, colouring, and business classes. Opening her eyes to a diverse selection of techniques, which have allowed her creativity and inspiration to keep flowing.

With family and a fresh start beckoning in Kelowna, Lindsay reconnected with Loyal and found her professional home.

“Within moments of our initial conversation, I was drawn to Loyal Hair and haven’t looked back.

“Now ten years in the industry, and moving forward, I will continue with my ongoing education, hair shows to ignite my inspiration and networking events. I will forever be learning, and am excited to see where the next years take me!”

Having worked under Colin and Loyal for over two years, Lindsay has gained a firm grasp on the “numbers side” of the hair industry. She has learned the ability to set targets and goals, understanding the average hair stats in the country or world, and knowing how to take herself to the next step financially, is something that she will forever be grateful for learning from them.

Lindsay specializes in women’s short haircuts and creating beautiful blondes. She loves short haircuts because they are unique and customizable to each of her guests. Something as small as the length or density of a small layer can provide a drastic change to someone’s face shape.

Blonde colouring is also a passion of hers. She loves creating different contrasts, blends, and tones with a plethora of colours to create from.

When Lindsay is not at the salon you can find her at her local gym!

Favourite wine: “The kind in the bottle. (I’m not a picky gal.)”

Favourite song:  “Songs so embarrassing that I have to roll up windows at red lights so the person beside me doesn’t hear it.”

A moment where a service noticeably empowered or boosted the confidence of one of your guests:

“A shy, timid gal visited my chair and during our consultation, she barely made eye contact with herself in the mirror. She constantly looked down and bowed her head to avoid seeing herself.

After a beautiful blonding service and new trendy cut, I pulled out the double mirror and said to her “don’t you love it?!”. Instantly, a huge smile came across her face. She turned beet red and said, ‘I don’t even recognize myself’.

“This isn’t even the best part... The salon I worked at the time, the entire exterior wall of the building was a mirror reflection, but from the inside, we could all see outside to the public.

After she had paid and was leaving the salon, I watched her as she exited and walked past the long mirror wall. For the next 30 feet, she stared and smiled at herself as she walked to her bus stop. She looked pretty damn empowered.”

Samantha Dawn

Samantha has earned her place as a professional stylist through years of hard work. After attending the Aveda Institute in Calgary AB, Samantha went on to complete five government exams, receiving her Red Seal License. She then worked alongside a senior stylist for a year and a half to build her clientele, eventually working as a stylist herself and expanding her skills. After four years, Samantha and her husband accepted an opportunity and made the move to Kelowna, BC which eventually led her to Loyal Hair.

“I had booked a couple of hair appointments with Loyal himself as a way to check out the ‘vibes’ of the salon. He was easy to get along with and very community-oriented, I reached out and was offered a job at Loyal Hair. For this, I am very thankful!”

One of Samantha's fondest memories was when she worked as the colour educator with Goldwell Canada. She travelled to different salons, educating stylists on different techniques and how to use colour. Working alongside talented artists, colouring the models hair and styling the runway were all amazing opportunities.

With all her experience, Samantha has many specialties and in particular loves working on highlights and balayage, she loves creating dimensional looks, adding movement and life. When she’s not mastering her skills, Samantha can be found spending time with friends and family, checking out new wineries, riding her bike around town, and hiking with her husband and their bernedoodle, Stella. She also loves cozying up with her cat, Snooze, and reading a book. She spends lots of time listening to podcasts and working on self-improvement.

Favourite wine: “50th Parallel Pinot Noir Rose.”

Favourite song: “Anything Eric Church! Love him!.”

Morgan Luff

Morgan entered the hair industry in Newfoundland in 2011. Right out of the gate she worked at two of St. John’s most prestigious salons. She was lucky enough to learn under amazing mentors and leading brand ambassadors from all over Atlantic Canada. Morgan was committed to her training, and as often as she could she worked with various brands such as Wella, Goldwell, and Joico. In 2018, Morgan made the move to the Okanagan and briefly worked at an Aveda concept salon before eagerly settling in at Loyal Hair. As a new resident to Kelowna, she saw Loyal as an asset salon, because of how involved in the community they are.

“I love how much we try to give back and support other small businesses locally.”

Though Morgan has had many amazing experiences in her career, her highlight thus far was attending the TiGi academy in New York City in 2012. After winning a retail incentive at her salon, she embarked on an amazing experience of traveling and training, sparking her wanderlust and passion for the beauty industry.

Morgan enjoys using all her knowledge and experience to specialize in colour corrections and hair transformations. She loves a good challenge and leaves her guests with a smile.

“It’s so satisfying to put the hard work in and see it all come together in the end.”

Outside of the salon Morgan is usually doing something outside, whether it is hiking, camping, or just relaxing at the beach. She loves all types of music and enjoys playing guitar. Yoga, reading, and wine drinking are also favourite activities of hers.

Favourite wine: “Pinot Noir.”

Favourite song: “Don’t stop by Fleetwood Mac.”

A moment where a service noticeably empowered or boosted the confidence of one of your guests:

“Many precious memories come to mind from behind the chair. I feel like my main mission is to boost confidence and empower whoever sits in my chair. It’s totally a win for me if I can make that happen in some small way.

One that sticks out is about a brave little girl who donated her long healthy braids to help create a wig for cancer patients. She felt so empowered to help sick children her age and she loved her short new haircut.”

Tianna Chun

From a young age, Tianna has always had an interest in hair. She loved her visits to the salon, and always left feeling happy and excited. She is passionate about passing that same experience along to her guests. Originally from Kelowna, Tianna was introduced to Loyal Hair Salon by a family member. After stepping foot inside for the first time, she instantly fell in love with the beautiful space, wonderful people, and the extraordinary guest experience. Throughout her career, Tianna is most grateful for the people and relationships built along the way.

Though Tianna enjoys offering all kinds of services, she has a soft spot for fun and bright colours as she loves the creativity involved, as well as the unique individuality and personality it brings out in people. When she’s not at her salon chair, Tianna can be found exploring or out in nature. She recently got back into rockhounding as well as gold panning. These are now some of her favourite things to do, as well as the camping and adventuring that come with them!

Favourite wine: “Pinot noir.”

Favourite song: “Teenagers - My Chemical Romance.”

A moment where a service noticeably empowered or boosted the confidence of one of your guests:

“I had a guest and her daughter in from out of town and had given them both haircuts. One of my clients had just had her hair cut but it was not done the way she wanted it. A few days after leaving and returning home, I received an email from my client. She told me how happy they both were and that the haircuts they had gotten were the best ones yet. I love making people happy and feel good.”
